Today, I am an AMADA – professional recognition via an Associate Membership with the ADA – helping students with dyslexia and those performing below the expected level, to learn to read and write with confidence.

My daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with dyslexia in her second year of prep. She was 6 years old. We were fortunate she attended a school where her wellbeing, comfort and education were fundamental to her school journey. The support she received helped her thrive in her first few years of primary school.

At that time, she was also being tutored by MSL Specialist Educator, Helene Mau. These sessions were groundbreaking for Emma. She was learning and engaging in MSL, and she was having fun. The relationship Helene built and nurtured with Emma is still alive today.

When I was ready to help other struggling students, I needed a mentor. Who better than Helene? Her guidance, support and unwavering encouragement ensured I set myself up for success.

When Emma’s time with Helene ended, I was searching for the skills to help her continue on her learning path. When I came across the Institute for Multisensory Structured Language Education (IMSLE), I was immediately excited to be taught by the best in the industry. I enrolled in the IMSLE Associate Training Course, which is the recognised training provider for the Australian Dyslexia Association (ADA).
